Let's consider the Postpartum Plan as part three of your "birthing plans" ( Birth Plan, Baby Care Plan and Postpartum Plan). The purpose of the Postpartum Plan is to help you make a smooth transition in the first few weeks after you give birth. So as you fill out the form, think of the first few weeks after you have your baby/babies. Who will do the cooking? Who will be the primary caregiver for the baby? Who will be the mother's primary support person? Having a plan for this time gives you and your partner more time to spend bonding with your baby/babies. Most of the following questions are taken from DONA's Postpartum plan written by Susan Martensen, CD(DONA), PCD(DONA) to help you consider some of the things you may need to coordinate after the birth of your baby (or babies).
